Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Fans can expect learning which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
